Plant Fiber, Farming and Uses

Quick Answer

Gather Plant Fiber from bushes, produce Shrub Seedlings, choose growing soil, and compare String recipes while keeping raw fiber for direct crafting.

Enshrouded Plant Fiber comes from ordinary bushes throughout Embervale. Gather shrubs while exploring for an immediate supply, or grow Shrub Seedlings near your base for a repeatable source. The farming chain is Plant Fiber and Farm Soil into seedlings at a Seedbed, then planting and harvesting the mature shrubs. Keep some raw fiber instead of converting your entire stock into String.

Plant Fiber is a common level-one crafting material with a stack size of 250. It is used directly in furniture, animal supplies and equipment, as well as in the production of String. A berry bush, a planted shrub and a finished stack of String are different collection targets, so check which material your next recipe actually requires.

Identify ordinary shrubs before choosing a route

Collect ordinary bushes in the area you are already exploring and check the resulting item in your inventory. You do not need to reach a late-game biome to start gathering Plant Fiber. Receiving Purple Berries means you are collecting a berry source, rather than confirming that the same bush should also provide your expected fiber supply.

A shrub that supplies Plant Fiber in Enshrouded

For a short task, collecting a patch of suitable shrubs is the simplest starting route. Keep gathering while moving between nearby objectives instead of making a long expedition solely because an old guide names a distant farming location. The useful check is whether the plants you encounter actually provide Plant Fiber.

Plant Fiber can also appear as a physical item in the world. Collect a visible loose item when you find it, but distinguish that pickup from a renewable farm. Neither a loose bundle nor a single bush establishes a guaranteed amount per hour or an instant-respawn method for version 1.0.

Choose gathering or farming according to the shortage

Wild gathering gets you the initial fiber without first constructing a farming setup. Use it when you need a small amount for an immediate recipe or when the Farmer is not yet available. It also supplies the first Plant Fiber needed to unlock the seedling recipe.

Farming becomes useful when you repeatedly run out at your base. It requires more preparation because the seedling recipe consumes both Plant Fiber and Farm Soil, and the Seedbed itself has a separate construction cost. A seedling farm brings the source closer to your crafting area; it does not remove the need to fund the next planting batch.

These routes can work together. Gather while exploring, keep a raw reserve, and use part of it to replenish your planted shrubs. Avoid spending the last fiber on an unrelated furnishing when your next goal is to produce another batch of seedlings.

Unlock and build the Seedbed

The Seedbed recipe unlocks after rescuing the Farmer through Growing Stronger Together. Have the Farmer craft it, or use the Farmer Assistant when that equivalent crafting access is available. This is the production station for seedlings, rather than the surface in which mature plants grow.

Seedbed crafting station used to produce Shrub Seedlings
Seedbed ingredientAmount
Wood Logs10
Metal Scraps2
Farm Soil10

The recipe produces one Seedbed instantly. Gather those materials before expecting to start a shrub production queue. If the recipe is unavailable, check the Farmer unlock rather than repeatedly collecting more Plant Fiber: fiber alone does not unlock the station that processes it.

Place the Seedbed where you can return to manage its production. Keep its input inventory separate from the materials reserved for your next equipment or building task. This makes it easier to see whether the shortage is a missing station, missing soil or missing fiber.

Make Farm Soil for the seedling recipe

Farm Soil is another Farmer recipe unlocked through Growing Stronger Together. Its crafting requirement is seven Springlands Dirt and three Bonemeal for an output of ten Farm Soil. Farm Soil can also be mined from suitable places in the world, particularly farms.

You can place Farm Soil with the Construction Hammer and move it with the Rake. That makes it useful both as an ingredient for seedlings and as a prepared growing surface. Keep these uses separate when counting your supplies: soil committed to crafting seedlings is not simultaneously available for placing a growing bed.

For the first small setup, secure the station and one planting batch before enlarging the growing area. Building a very large patch while leaving no soil for the actual seedling recipe delays the first harvest. The aim is a working production chain, followed by expansion when you know how much fiber you consume.

Turn Plant Fiber into Shrub Seedlings

Collecting Plant Fiber unlocks the Shrub Seedling recipe. At the Seedbed, one Plant Fiber and one Farm Soil produce five Shrub Seedlings, with a listed crafting time of three minutes. The seedling item stacks to 100.

Use the following order:

  1. Gather the initial Plant Fiber from ordinary bushes.
  2. Unlock the Farmer and construct the Seedbed.
  3. Provide the Plant Fiber and Farm Soil required for a batch.
  4. Let the Seedbed finish producing Shrub Seedlings.
  5. Collect the seedlings and plant them in suitable ground.
  6. Harvest the mature shrubs, then reserve inputs for another batch.

A finished seedling is an intermediate product. It is not already a harvest of Plant Fiber, and the Seedbed's production timer is not the same as the planted shrub's growth timer. Check which stage you are waiting for before assuming the farm has stopped working.

Match the growing surface to the shrub

A mature Shrub Seedling yields Plant Fiber and Twigs. It can be harvested once, so plan to plant replacement seedlings after harvesting. Treat it as a crop that you replenish, rather than a permanent bush that repeatedly refills without another planting step.

The listed shrub growth times differ by soil:

Growing surfaceListed shrub growth time
Springlands Dirt30 minutes
Revelwood Dirt30 minutes
Nomad Highlands Dirt60 minutes
Farm Soil7 minutes 30 seconds
Fertilised Farm Soil3 minutes 45 seconds
Flower Soil15 minutes

These are the shrub's individual soil values. World settings can affect plant growth, so use the current plant information when judging your own farm. Do not turn a listed timer into a guaranteed harvest yield or a promise that every server produces the same hourly output.

The Watering Can can display information about planted seedlings and limit their growth. It is not required for seedlings to grow and does not make them grow faster. Inspect the shrub and its growing conditions instead of repeatedly using the can as an assumed speed boost.

Convert fiber to String through the right route

Obtaining Plant Fiber unlocks String crafting. The String recipes group their accepted input under Any Fiber, with Plant Fiber shown as a suitable ingredient. The available production routes use different input quantities and batch times.

Crafting routeFiber inputString outputListed craft time
Manual Crafting31Instant
Spinning Wheel2120 seconds
Spinning Machine10101 minute 30 seconds

Manual Crafting is available for an immediate conversion once the recipe is unlocked. The spinning stations offer different material efficiency when you have access to them. Compare both the output quantity and the production time before treating a larger displayed ingredient number as a worse recipe.

String can also drop from Spiders or appear as a physical world item. If your immediate shortage is String, those sources can help without consuming your raw Plant Fiber reserve. They do not replace Plant Fiber in a recipe that explicitly asks for the raw material.

Keep raw fiber for direct crafting uses

Not every use passes through String. Check the ingredient list before converting a large stack, especially when making animal supplies or furnishings. Several recipes need Plant Fiber directly and still require another material, a particular crafter or a workshop.

This is a selection of useful recipes, not a complete crafting catalogue. Check the full current recipe before leaving to gather because increasing the fiber stack will not solve a missing crafter, missing workshop or missing second ingredient.

Animal food and bait are also different products. For example, a recipe producing fifty food portions should not be counted as fifty separate crafting batches. Read the output quantity as well as the ingredient quantity when estimating the raw supply you need.

Diagnose a stalled supply at the correct stage

If you collect berries instead of fiber, change the plant you are gathering. If the Shrub Seedling recipe is missing, confirm that you have collected Plant Fiber and unlocked the Farmer's seedling production. If production will not start, check the required Farm Soil and the Seedbed rather than only the fiber count.

If you have seedlings but no mature shrubs, inspect the planted stage and growing surface. If a harvested spot is empty, plant replacement seedlings: the crop is harvested once. If you have a large String supply but cannot make a pillow or other direct recipe, return to its ingredient list and check whether it asks for raw Plant Fiber.

For a continuing supply, keep three things visible in your own routine: raw fiber available for the next recipe, inputs reserved for another seedling batch, and shrubs currently growing. That separates an immediate crafting shortage from a longer production task without depending on an unverified world-reset trick.
