Craft from Storage

Quick Answer

Enable craft from storage in Enshrouded with Magic Chests, place them near crafting stations and diagnose missing-material or range problems.

To craft from storage in Enshrouded, put the required materials in Magic Chests and keep those chests within range of the crafting location. Ordinary storage boxes do not provide the same material access. For a first setup, make a Small Magic Chest at a Workbench from a regular Small Chest and Shroud Spores, then test one recipe beside it.

The 1.0 crafting reference includes access to stored building materials as well as crafting resources. Older advice claiming that magic storage never supports building describes an earlier version. Range still matters, so a chest at one end of a large village should not be assumed to supply every project at the opposite end.

Start with the small version

A Small Magic Chest is the early practical entry point. You need a regular Small Chest and Shroud Spores for the conversion at a Workbench. The ordinary chest itself uses Wood Logs and String, while the spores come from Shroud monsters.

Small Magic Chest for an initial crafting-material depot

Check the recipe currently displayed at your Workbench for the quantities before gathering a batch. Do not substitute a different container just because its appearance or capacity looks similar. The listed regular chest is part of the conversion recipe, and the magical version is the item that supplies materials remotely.

Make one first. A single working unit lets you verify the crafting behavior, useful range and storage arrangement before converting every box you own. If the initial test fails, you have only one new container and one recipe to inspect instead of a settlement full of nearly identical boxes.

Place that first Magic Chest near the Workbench or the survivor you use most often. Put a small reserve of a known recipe ingredient inside it, keep the relevant material out of your backpack for the test and inspect whether the nearby crafting action becomes available. That confirms the intended behavior directly.

Move crafting materials into the correct container

The feature reads what is actually stored in a Magic Chest. It does not automatically convert the contents of every ordinary box into a shared material pool. If you craft the magical container but leave your resources in the old storage room, your recipe can remain blocked exactly as before.

Transfer a complete ingredient set for a simple recipe. Use one whose other requirements you already satisfy, so a missing station does not confuse the result. The test should answer one question: whether the crafting interface can use the material in this Magic Chest from this position.

If the test works, move the rest of the relevant crafting stock into magical storage. Keep the ordinary container until you have checked that you did not leave a partial stack behind. A recipe can look short of materials when the missing portion is simply in a different box.

Use the item names, not just the icons, when sorting. Finished components and raw materials may occupy different steps of the same crafting chain. Storing the raw resource does not make it count as the processed ingredient requested by a later recipe.

Keep the chest near the work

Magic Chest access has a limited range. A compact workshop may be served by a nearby group of chests, while a sprawling castle or village can need several material depots. The useful layout follows the actual working areas rather than the outline of the entire claimed territory.

Begin with a compact arrangement: chest, crafting station and the place where you interact with that station close together. Confirm the recipe there before moving the chest to a decorative storage hall. This gives you a known working position to return to if the distant layout stops supplying materials.

No unverified universal radius is needed for this check. Stand where you intend to craft, inspect the required ingredient counts and compare them after moving the chest closer. If access returns when the chest is nearby, you have identified a range or placement problem rather than a missing resource.

For a large settlement, create local depots where you repeatedly work. A building-material supply near the construction project and a crafting-material supply near the workshop can reduce trips across the base. Do not scatter identical partial stacks everywhere unless that arrangement actually helps you maintain the two areas.

Separate crafting failures from storage failures

Magic storage supplies eligible materials. It does not unlock a recipe, rescue its craftsperson or replace a required workshop. If your recipe remains unavailable, read the complete requirement list before changing the chest setup.

A clear test changes one condition at a time. If you move the chest, add several ingredients and unlock a new station simultaneously, success will not tell you which condition was responsible. Keep the first recipe simple, establish a working reference and then expand the arrangement.

Upgrade capacity when the supply system works

Larger Magic Chests use more advanced materials and are tied to broader crafting progression. Rescue the Carpenter and continue the associated quests for larger storage options. Because the magical ingredients also use the alchemical crafting chain, Alchemist progress can matter alongside the Carpenter's work.

Read these as different recipes, not a promise that each one is available as soon as you own the previous chest. The necessary regional materials, processing stations and survivor quests still have to be available in the world you are using.

For early play, several Small Magic Chests can provide a workable material setup while you progress. Stack or arrange them so they remain easy to identify and reach. Capacity is worth increasing when sorting and space become the real limitation; it does not fix a chest placed outside the useful crafting area.

The 1.0 release also includes upgrading storage in place. Follow the current storage interface when using that option rather than assuming every capacity change requires the older dismantle-and-rebuild routine. Keep this task separate from enabling magic access: a larger ordinary chest and a magical chest solve different problems.

Give the material pool a clear purpose

Use the Magic Chests primarily for the ingredients you expect crafting and building to consume. Food you intend to eat, equipment you intend to wear and personal keepsakes occupy slots without necessarily helping the shared material task. Ordinary storage remains useful for those categories.

Large Magic Chest for expanded crafting storage

Keep frequently used ingredients together in a way you understand. The game can provide access to a stored stack, but you still need to know whether a scarce material is reserved for a planned upgrade. A shared pool makes crafting convenient; it does not decide which project deserves the last rare component.

In a group, agree on reserved resources before someone begins a large building project. A player can spend an ingredient through the crafting interface without visiting the box where it was stored. That convenience makes clear project priorities more useful, not less.

Review a recipe's output before crafting several batches. Once storage supplies the inputs automatically, it becomes easier to spend more materials than intended. Check the count you are about to create and inspect the remaining supply after the first batch when working with a scarce ingredient.

Test building access independently

Crafting at a station and placing construction materials are different actions, even when both can draw from magical storage in the release version. Confirm the building action you actually plan to use rather than treating a successful Workbench test as proof that every distant construction location is covered.

Put a known building material in the nearby Magic Chest, move to the intended work area and inspect the available quantity in the relevant building interface. If it is unavailable there, test closer to the chest. This gives you a practical answer about the current location without relying on an older blanket statement about the feature.

Keep travel projects distinct from work at home. A material depot in one base should not be assumed to act as an unlimited world-wide inventory. If you are heading to another site, verify what that site can access and carry the supplies needed when local storage does not cover the task.

Finish with a repeatable return routine

After an expedition, deposit crafting ingredients in the magical supply near the relevant workshop. Check whether the next planned recipe can see them, then separate equipment and personal supplies into the storage you use for those items. This is a short routine that keeps the convenience working without requiring a complicated warehouse system.

When a recipe later reports a shortage, start with the exact item and the current container. Check range next, then the recipe's other prerequisites. The method is complete when a real recipe consumes material from the intended chest while your character stands at the normal crafting position. That confirmed behavior is the reference for every later storage expansion.
